Understanding the Pickleball Starting Score (002)
The score in Pickleball is always stated with three numbers and indicates:
1. The Starting Score: 0 - 0 - 2
* First 0 (Zero): This is the Serving Team's Score. Neither team has scored yet.
* Second 0 (Zero): This is the Receiving Team's Score. Neither team has scored yet.
* 2 (Two): This is the Server Number. This is the most unique part of the start.
* At the very start of the game, only one player on the starting team gets to serve before the serve switches to the opposing team. This is often called the "First Server Exception."
* By starting with "2," it signals that the current player is the second potential server on their team. Since they are the only one who will get to serve before the side out, it ensures only one player serves at the start.
